FIB Expectation Setting
A Short Background
This program kicked off a short while ago. A core team has helped us frame the challenge - “How to become a $1bn Bank?” - and how does technology inform how we should think and work. Since then we’ve been designing our approach to responding this challenge.
We are exploring the current marketplace, we’ve started to imagine the journey(ies) the bank might take. We’ve asked many questions of different people, we are developing materials and tools to help the program deliver results.
For this next critical part we are going to get together with you in Detroit in October to consider the following ‘Exam Question’:
The Big Question
To answer the question we need to do many things but importantly engage with you.
You are the leaders who will shape how the bank needs to think and work to answer the question. We intend to emerge from all of this work with the beginning of the blueprint. We are amassing as much context and insight as possible and are now reaching a critical milestone in the program - collaborative time on the ground with you.
We are applying Structured Visual Thinking™ -
What Happens Over The Two Days
The forthcoming session is made up of a series of structured visual conversations. They will directly respond to the exam question.
Building on work already underway we will:
Discuss the vision and current ambitions of the business overall. This is vital context for any technology strategy.
Shape the future of the bank with an emphasis on the technology strategy.
What To Expect
Expect conversations of direct importance to you and your area of operation. Expect to discuss a range of things related to answering the Exam Question.
We will discuss the future vision for the bank with a focus on the underpinning technology. Will will align on the overall intention and purpose of the bank and the priorities we should focus on as a result and the implications of that in terms of capability and resource.
You can expect to spend time exploring the dynamics surrounding the bank and how they might influence our course of action
Expect honest reflection of our current state as a bank alongside the recognition of challenges that may be ahead. Expect to be asked to make commitments to take action where it is identified as being necessary.
Expect your thoughts to be honoured and represented in a way that builds toward the outcome we need.
Some Session Principles
There’s no specific preparation required for the session - other than these expectations and your internal briefings.
We assume everyone attending the workshop is aware of the intention of the program - and the spirit and purpose of the Exam Question above.
Everyone attending the session has a recognized contribution and role to play in shaping the future and delivering the outcomes.
Explaining Our Role
Our job is to help you get the best answer to the question. We do this by using a variety of assessment techniques. These are ‘tools’ to help you to think about your challenges and make well reasoned decisions.
Think of these as ‘frameworks’ that stimulate quality conversation and challenge the team to push their thinking further than usual. In this forthcoming session these are visually created in a live format through our impartial facilitation.
Through these frameworks (and any visual stimulus that we create) we will introduce critical topics that we believe are key to answering your exam question.
By the time we are with you in Detroit we hope to have developed a fairly comprehensive picture of the bank. That picture will start to give us insights into culture, ambition, expectations and capabilities.
